In our daily lives, various packaging bags bring great convenience to our lives. Among them, stand-up pouches are highly favored for their unique design and practicality.

Stand-up pouches can stand on a flat surface on their own, which is convenient for placement and display, and are widely used in fields such as food and beverages. As a special kind of stand-up pouch, juice spout pouches are deeply loved by everyone for their convenience and practicality. So, what materials are juice spout pouches made of?

Let’s get into the details of this standup spout sachet.

Packaging Foil Materials

PET12/AL7/PA15/LDPE Foil Structure for Juice Standup Bag

It is made of four layers, with the outside PET film working as the print substrate film, the Al and PA film working as the middle reinforced layer, and finally, the LDPE film working as the inner sealing layer.

Next, let’s get into a deeper understanding of each substrate film material.

PET Film

PET Membrane Film

PET Film, namely polyester film, has extensive applications in packaging bags. It has many excellent characteristics.

Firstly, it has high toughness and strength, with good tensile strength and toughness. It is not easily damaged during use and can provide effective protection for the items inside the packaging. Secondly, it has very high transparency, making the contents of the packaging clearly visible and greatly enhancing the display effect of products. Thirdly, PET Film has good chemical resistance and has good tolerance to most chemical substances, ensuring stability in different environments. In addition, its barrier property is also good. It has a certain barrier effect on moisture, oxygen, etc., which helps to extend the shelf life of products such as food.

In packaging bags, PET Film is often used as an outer layer material or an intermediate layer and is compounded with other materials to enhance the overall performance of packaging bags. It is widely used in the field of food packaging, such as snack bags, beverage bottle labels, etc., and can also be used for packaging non-food products such as electronic products.

The most commonly used thickness of PET film applied in the flexible packaging industry is 12 microns, which equals 0.48 gauge. So whenever you see PET12 or 0.48 g PET, you will know they mean the same thing.

Aluminum Film

Aluminum Membrane Film

As a commonly used packaging material, aluminum foil has an important position in packaging bags. It has many characteristics.

First of all, it has excellent barrier properties and has excellent barrier properties to oxygen, water vapor, light, etc. Food packaging, can effectively prevent food from oxidizing and deteriorating, getting damp and moldy, etc., thereby prolonging the shelf life of products. Secondly, aluminum foil has good thermal conductivity and can play an auxiliary role in heat transfer in some product packaging that requires rapid cooling or heating. Moreover, it has strong corrosion resistance and can resist the erosion of most chemical substances, so it is very suitable for packaging various chemical products. At the same time, aluminum foil is highly malleable and can be processed into various shapes and thicknesses to meet the needs of different types of packaging bags.

In terms of application fields, aluminum foil is widely used in food packaging, such as products with high preservation requirements such as meat, dairy products, coffee, and tea; in pharmaceutical packaging, it can ensure the stability and effectiveness of drugs; in electronic product packaging, it can also play a protective role such as anti-static and moisture-proof.

PA Film

PA Membrane Film

As a common packaging material, nylon plays an important role in the production of packaging bags. It has many characteristics.

First of all, it has high strength. It has very high strength and toughness and is not easily broken even when loaded with heavy objects or may be squeezed during transportation, which can provide good protection for items. Secondly, it has good wear resistance. During daily use and handling, packaging bags may rub against various surfaces. The wear resistance of nylon ensures the service life of packaging bags. Thirdly, it has chemical resistance. It has a certain tolerance to many chemical substances and can remain stable in different environments, which is suitable for packaging products of various properties. In addition, nylon has better gas barrier properties. Although it is not as good as some professional barrier materials, it has a certain barrier effect on gases and helps to extend the shelf life of products such as food.

In terms of application fields, nylon is often used in food packaging, such as nuts, dried meat products, and other foods that need certain protection and preservation; in the industrial field, it can be used to package various parts and raw materials to protect products; it is also often used in express packaging because of its high strength and can withstand various pressures during transportation.

LDPE Film

LDPE means low-density polyethylene film, which is the most used inner sealing layer for standing juice bags. LDPE is also lightweight, easy to fabricate, and has good chemical and impact resistance. LDPE is recyclable and reusable, making it a popular alternative to traditional plastic. LDPE is nontoxic, non-contaminating, and has a high degree of break resistance. Most importantly, LDPE membrane can be modified against the requirement of specific products, and finalize the package with great seal strength and protection. The thickness of the LDPE membrane film will be decided against the particular application.

The customer artwork is printed on the first PET film layer in the gravure printing system. Then four layers are bonded together into a finished laminated foil material under the dry lamination or solvent-free lamination process.

Usually, we describe the finished laminate as PET12/AL7/PA15/LDPE foil. So, how does this foil structure perform when it is intended for standup juice bags? Will it break during the transit?

Great Standup Effect

PET film is of great stiffness, which makes it suitable for creating a good straight-standing effect for standup bags. For some low-volume packages less than 500ml, even PET12/LDPE foil laminate can create enough standing effects for most products. So, when there is an Aluminum film and PA film layer applied in the middle of this foil laminate, the stiffness of this finished foil will be able to present a standup profile.

Mechanical Property

The spout package will protect the juice product during filling, transit, and distribution. Under the emergency circumstances of unexpected shock in delivery or packages falling off the goods shelf, the spout package will never be allowed to break.

We put the mechanical property of this 200ml juice standup sachet on our top priority in our manufacturing plant. Serious measures are taken in our QC system, to assure each order is finalized with the expected result.

To put it simply, a drop test of a filled package is one of the most reliable ways to check if the package may burst under sudden sharp forces.

Barrier Performance

Usually, the barrier performance of a multi-material laminate is evaluated by WVTR (short for water vapor transmission rate) and OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate). The juice product will be kept away from these two elements to stay fresh as long as possible. However, please keep in mind that, the barrier property of this laminated foil is just a part of the measures taken to ensure the shelf life of juice products. The below table shows the typical value of the WVTR and OTR of this triplex foil laminate PET12/AL7/PA15/LDPE.
