Pillow pouch packaging is an important part of the packs for soybean powder in the current market.
The pillow pouch requires less material than other packaging bags and the price is cheaper, which is the first choice of many customers. The pillow pouch has a stronger seal on the back to prevent water, moisture, and oxygen from entering, which can better protect the soybean powder. The pillow pouch also can soybean powder the product inside the package to remain fresh and whole throughout its shelf life.
Besides, a creative artwork design can be printed on the sides of the pillow pouch packaging, including all the information for branding and sale, which makes the final package more attractive to consumers.
Located in Qingdao, China, we are a well-known flexible converter that uses the best film materials available on the market.
- fossil chemical polymer films
- Aluminum foil metal sheet
- vacuum metalized film materials
- Ceramic film substrates
- plant-based biopolymer materials
- biodegradable film materials
- compostable substrate films
- Fully recyclable substrate films
We are devoted to creating story-telling pillow pouches for soybean powder that increase product sales and establish a good brand image.
In this post, we will break down the exact foil materials of this 500-gram soybean powder pillow pouch, hoping it could serve as a reference for your products.
Ok, let’s get into the details of this pillow pouch bag.
Packaging Foil Materials
This film material has a reinforced structure with excellent properties for pillow pouch packages. The foil structure is PA15/LDPE65. The graphic below shows foil materials.
The film material of the soybean pillow pouch is made of two layers, with the outside PA film working as the print substrate film, and the LDPE film working as the inner sealing layer. The thickness of the LDPE film should be adjusted to suit the requirements of a 500-gram soybean pillow pouch. Based on a flexible combination of various polymer film materials, the foil materials can provide excellent barrier properties, protecting the soybean powder from air, moisture, and light.
Next, We will talk further about each substrate film material.
PA Film
PA15, usually people call it nylon film. It is of excellent mechanical strength, anti-puncture resistance, and high barrier performance against oxygen.
PA film has the advantages of strong bearing capacity and long service life.
PA film has good moisture resistance, which can effectively protect the product from moisture and extend the shelf life of the product.
PA film can keep away from oxygen, moisture, and others, slow down the oxidation process, prevent water loss, and keep products fresh and safe
PA film has high transparency, which can clearly show the color, shape, and texture of the product in the bag. It’s better to attract the customer’s eye.
LDPE Film
LDPE film is short for low-density polyethylene film, the most commonly used inner sealing film for multi-layer flexible packaging in various applications.
LDPE is a thermoplastic polymer that is a member of the polyethylene family of plastics. It is known for its flexibility, toughness, transparency, and corrosion resistance.
LDPE is also lightweight, easy to fabricate, and has good chemical and impact resistance.
LDPE is nontoxic, non-contaminating, and has a high degree of break resistance. It’s also lightweight, corrosion resistant, and has good chemical and impact resistance.
These 2 layers are bonded together into a finished laminated foil material under the dry lamination or solvent-free lamination process. Usually, we describe the finished laminate as PA/LDPE foil.
Thickness
As you can see below picture, the overall thickness of this spout pouch is 0.280 mm, which equals 280 microns for this laminated foil.
So, how does this foil structure perform when it is intended for soybean milk packaging? Will iteak during the transit?
Excellent Mechanical Property
The pillow pouch bag will protect the soybean milk product during filling, transit, and distribution. Under the emergency circumstances of unexpected shock in delivery or packages falling off the goods shelf, paper standup bags will never be allowed to break. Soybean powder flour scattered on the ground is a bad thing, and you don’t want that to happen.
This reinforced laminated foil is achieved with great mechanical strength, with some standard items as below.
- Tensile Strength
- Sealing Strength
- Anti-puncture Strength
- Burst Impact Strength
- Anti-pressure Property
We put the mechanical properties of this soybean powder pillow pouch on our top priority in our manufacturing plant. Serious measures are taken in our QC system, to assure each order is finalized with the expected result.
Drop test
Also, a drop test of a filled package is one of the reliable ways to check if the package may burst under sudden sharp forces.
Here, we are going to fill 1000 grams rice into this bag, perform the drop test from 1.6 meters high, 3 times, and check if it breaks.
See the video below for a 500-gram soybean pillow pouch of the drop test.
Barrier Performance
Usually, the barrier performance of a multi-material laminate is evaluated by WVTR (short for water vapor transmission rate) and OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate). The below table shows the typical values of the WVTR and OTR of the most common substrate films in flexible packaging.
Based on our experience, PA15/LDPE65 foil laminate will be able to meet most of the requirements for 500-gram soybean bags.
For the bag In the above picture, we are producing it for our Chinese customers. It is semi-transparent and keeps the product in a fine situation even under a humid environment.
Furthermore, WVTR (short for water vapor transmission rate) and OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate) are evaluated for this laminated foil, with typical values listed in the table below.
Item | Standard | Unit | Typical Value |
Water Vapor Transimission Rate | ASTM E 96 | g/m2/24hr | 0.85 |
Oxygen Transmission Rate | ASTM D 372-99 | cc/m2/24hr | 1.2 |
Sometimes, some customers may be seeking a foil laminate with better blocking performance for their cassava powder, and here are some available items for your reference.
- PET/VMPET/LDPE

More Sustainable Materials Options
Along with the increasing burden of fossil-chemical polymer materials discarded into our environment, there is an unprecedented demand for sustainable packages, leading to a more eco-friendly business activity. Upon the recent investigation of the roasted sunflower seeds market, more and more consumers are more likely to purchase a product that acts toward environmental sustainability.
Here, we are going to share some of the trending sustainable packages for the roasted sunflower seeds market.
Compostable Packaging Materials
The compostable packages are based on plant-based fibers like cellulose, or bio-mass like corn starch, cassava, or sugarcane. The resins derived from these resources are usually named bio-polymer, which can break down into inorganic elements under the functions of algae, bacteria, and other microorganisms.
We have developed several compostable foil materials that can be intended for roasted sunflower seeds, with the list below.
- Cellulose/PLA+PBAT Film
- Cellulose/Metallized Cellulose/PLA+PBAT Film
- Metallized Paper/Cellulose/PLA+PBAT Film
- Kraft Paper/Metallized Cellulose/PLA+PBAT Film
Fully Recyclable Mono Materials
Compared with the high cost of compostable foil materials, fully recyclable materials sachets, and rolls are flooding the market for lightweight product packages in the market at much lower prices.
Along with the improvement of barrier performance of PE film materials, their foil laminate can be enabled with a fine property to keep the sunflower seeds from moisture. A layer of PVA coating is applied over the surface of LDPE and HDPE film to enhance the moisture barrier. EVOH can be included in the biaxially orientated film, which is usually called BOPE in the flexible packaging industry, to largely improve the oxygen barrier performance.
Nowadays, we have developed some bags based on single resin film materials, that can be found in good application for roasted sunflower seeds. We will give a further analysis in future posts.
That all. Just reach us if you have any questions. Have a good time!
